it really is amazing to see the number of you women that actually believe in this crap. why would you support a campaign whose aim is to make money off of something that shouldn't even exist. All a company has to do is donate at least a penny to this campaign and they won't get any heat from the fda about what they put in their products and most the stuff that's in these products cause all this cancer stuff. for example; the got milk? campaign is aimed at children. milk companies use rbgh to produce more milk, children drink milk at schools, 12 yr old girls have 44dd breats caused from rbgh, the younger the girl, the bigger the breast. this is an excellent oppertunity for more money. it's a win win situation for all that are involved.

My hat is off to your Jeanne for seeing through the smoke screen. I read all of the heart felt comments from survivors and I must say I am just floored by the ignorance. This is just a marketing campaign for profit, but since it is pink and the "host cause" is breast cancer, people just buy buy buy. Simply amazing! I need to get into marketing. Truth just doesn't sell and now I see why. First womens lib, now this.

I totally agree with you. This is nothing more than typical (all too typical in this country, just look at the comments left here!) exploitation of women. Media is very effective at what they do. So if you do not agree with the poster here, it might be time to TURN OFF your TV and WAKE UP. My mom is very ill with cancer, but the fact is Cancer is NOT a disease, it is part of our immune system, and is a perfectly normal component within the body. The problem is we don’t focus on the cause of cancer, we just treat the symptoms, not the cause. Chemo is poison. I won’t even get into the natural remedies for cancer. I know, my mother has been battling cancer for years. But let me get on point: This is just another way to exploit women. Please wake up people. Chemotherapy is a hoax, well marketed by very large and powerful Pharmaceutical companies. Here is a blog:

it might make you think more about the topic. I feel for those with ill loved ones, but I refuse to fall into the sheeple every time we see fit to exploit ourselves.

Hello

I am a breast cancer survivor and I LOVE seeing all the pink ribbons. Yes I wish more of the money made on these items was going to the cause but even if pennies it adds up. Some of these companies are donating huge amounts. Others dont but thats just the way it is. I buy every pink item I see. I figure if a company has the guts to make such an item and risk posibly losing sales as not everyone buys this stuff than I WILL support them. I think that the more people are aware the better. I also sell these items to fundraise for local hospitals and when we have our booths in the grocery store you wouldnt believe how many people including survivors stop and tell us there story or ask us where they can get support. Sorry but wear that pink ribbon and be proud. As for the men lots are now wearing the ribbon as well. It represents there wife there daughter etc. Whats that new saying real men wear pink!!!! So all you companies that make pink ribbon products hats off to you keep up the pink work.

I was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer at the age of 32. As a result, I have suffered extreme depression. It was a life altering experience for me. Five years later and cancer free, I still suffer emotional stress and I am still going through reconstruction (about 14 surgeries) so far. Radiation ruined my tissue. I have the breast cancer gene (BRCA1 positive). To me, it ruined many aspects of my life. However, I can tell you that I am in full support for any company who has jumped on the pink ribbon band wagon. I will switch to products who support this cause. Any penny that can be donated to this more than deserving cause to help me and any other woman suffering from this disease is a penny that I have not problem spending. Although some of these companies make millions and millions of dollars and probably receive some kind of tax incentive, they are companies that could have donated to a charity other than the cure for breast cancer and that is money that my cause would not have. More power to Pink Ribbon products. Marketing and advertising are very powerful tools and if someone sees this Pink Ribbon on a product and questions why it is there, that is one more person who has been made aware of this terrible disease.

There are numerous other diseases and cancers that afflict women and which deserve equal (if not more) funding as the "Pink" charities. Heart disease kills more women each year and ovarian cancer is on the rise in the midst of no clear diagnostic tool to detect it. More money should be shifted from the Pink to the research of these other disease states in an effort to address ALL health and cancer issues that we, as women, face. The Pink charities are over-funded and I agree with a previous blogger that companies now shamefully use the ribbon to peddle their products. It is no longer an "awareness" campaign rather one that encourages companies to prostitute their products under the guise of doing some good.

Here are three of this year's anti-pink rants. This year my strategy was to fight back with humor, since most of the people who buy pink ribbon junk don't seem to be persuaded by logic and evidence.

Jeanne,

After reading your blogs here, I went to your site - which lead me to the NPR interview with Hallmark. I couldn't listen to it for more than about a minute.

My mother had a radical mastectomy in 1971 -- the usual method of treatment then. Survival rates weren't so high in the early 70s. Yet, five years later, she was declared cancer free. Ten more years went by, then she developed bone cancer that quickly spread through her body. I wasn't with her when she died. I lived in another state. I traveled back and forth to see her as I could.

The last time that I saw her, she was drugged with pain medication. When she saw me enter the room, she thought I was a nurse. She thought that she had just given birth to me and I was the nurse in the maternity ward. I sat with her as she lived through different periods of her life. Once more I left to go home.

She died shortly thereafter. I wasn't there. My mother died almost 20 years ago and I miss her dearly.

I get my yearly mammography to honor my mother. I wear a pink ribbon pin. Not always, just sometimes when I think of my mother ... and a close friend that died last year of breast cancer ... and all the strong women and men that battle through this awful disease.

Every just cause is exploited. I don't pay attention to the noise. I tune it out. We all have our own way of adapting.
