Web sites will Go Pink during the month of October to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get people talking about breast cancer, and raise money for research. But to be clear, raising money isn’t the primary purpose of this web event. The hope is that you turn your site pink (in whatever way works for your site), educate yourself about the multiple issues related to Breast Cancer, then take that knowledge and tell someone else what you’ve learned.

October is Here

Just a reminder to change your calendars. And something else… what was it…? :)

My sincere thanks to everyone who is participating. Today has been interesting. I just spent the last hour entering sites (yes… by hand) to the list to the left. It seemed at one point that for every one I added a new one would arrive. The more the merrier I say, but I am done for the night. I will catch up tomorrow.

I also wanted to say that while I will try, I probably won’t be able to respond to each of you who sent email over the past couple of days. There’s been a lot of positive thoughts sent our way and it is much appreciated.

195 sites in the list as of this post. That is a lot of pink. But adding some colour isn’t the only reason we are doing this.

For everyone who is participating, I want to ask you a favour. Do a little more. Read about cancer. What it does to a person’s body, to their mind, to their family. Look for the positives and the negatives. The write about it. Podcast about it. Vidcast about it. Talk about it in that thing I am told still does exist called “real life.”

Find at least two people to bother and tell them everything you learned. Kinda like I am bothering you right now. :)

Also… this site has open registration. Share your story; personal or professional. Let others learn from you.

My thanks again. Time now for me to read stories to a very tired kid.

[Updated] Speaking of stories… I wrote a couple of closing graphs to this post, but deleted them. I just wasn’t getting across very well what I wanted to say to sum up my request for a favour. One of the books I picked out to read to my daughter has in it what I wanted to say:

Remember then that there is only one important time, and that time is now. The most important one is always the one you are with. And the most important thing is to do good for the one who is standing at your side. For these, my dear boy, are the answers to what is most important in this world.

Think the concept of your site is awesome. Best of luck recruiting other designers to meet your challenge of a color overhaul. I just learned about this initiative, so for starters, placed a small ‘awareness’ box and ribbon I found on my fraternity website (uflambdachi.org) to show our site’s support! I need to find time to adjust all the CSS. Cheerz!

great great, we went pink over the weekend….
