Pink for October

We are back for 2008. Or will be on October 1, 2008.

For the month of September, we’ll be working on the site and figuring what new ways we’ll try to get people involved. In 2007 we had ~3000 sites Go Pink and we’re hoping to break that record this year.

If you would like to help with the management of the event, please let us know.

If you are looking for information about the event and how to participate… it’s pretty simple:

You have a web site. Go Pink.

What does Go Pink mean? Whatever you want it to mean. Some people have simply changed the color of their text, some people have done a complete redesign of their site with the event in mind, and others have displayed a simple badge or banner with a link to this site. How you get involved is totally up to you.

We only ask two things: One, tell your site’s visitors why you are Going Pink. Two, link back to this site (we link to you if you sign up, this isn’t link baiting) so people can find out more information. Easy.

If you really want to get wild, as some people did last year, write about any issues of interest related to Breast Cancer. Inform your audience.

As in the past, the focus isn’t on raising money: this is an event with a low bar of entry. The idea is to inform first and perhaps to inspire others to get involved in a way that works for them.

Our thanks to those who have helped with the event and participated in it the past two years. We hope all of you and more join us again in 2008.

  1. I’m already set for October and can’t wait to see other sites Go Pink. By participating last year I learned a few things about cancer, so I’ll add a voice of encouragment to the P4O event.

  2. Thanks for doing this, Matto. I’d love to get all the “Yellow” people – LIVESTRONG™ Local Army Leaders from the Lance Armstrong Foundation and whatnot – involved. They are all about Grassroots awareness, so it’s a great fit.

Of course I don’t think that we should literally mix yellow and pink. That would not be a pretty colour. Nope.

  3. Just wondering if you have a count of how many sites went pink in 2007? you mention that 1500 did in 2006, but I’m curious to know if the number increased last year?

  4. We had roughly 3000 sites do it in 2007.

  7. Thanks again, Matto. I’ve got a “Go Pink for October” box in my blog sidebar.

Loving the design! It’s HOT – HOT PINK at that.

  8. I went pink last year and did not change my theme until now, so my blog has been pink for almost a year :D

By the way, I wrote a series of 7 posts on breast cancer awareness last year, beginning with this post: http://chenpn.com/2007/10/05/breast-cancer-what/

  9. Oh, and what do you mean by “helping with the event”? I would like to volunteer, but I am not sure whether I am capable of doing what needs to be done.

Would you email me, please? :D
