Web sites will Go Pink during the month of October to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get people talking about breast cancer, and raise money for research. But to be clear, raising money isn’t the primary purpose of this web event. The hope is that you turn your site pink (in whatever way works for your site), educate yourself about the multiple issues related to Breast Cancer, then take that knowledge and tell someone else what you’ve learned.

Making It Easy to Go Pink

Because this is the third year for Pink for October, we’ve had time and luck with building up a lot of support from web designers. For 2008, it’s easy to Go Pink.

I’ve said before that Pink for October should have a low bar for entry: Turn your site pink, link to us. The latter is easy, but I get a lot of questions about the former. “How much pink is enough?”

As I said previously, I just changed some of the text on my personal site pink and added an image in the sidebar linking here. But if you want to go further than I did, this post is for you.

Here you can find a short list of links to resources for Going Pink on your site.

Wordpress

Essential Keystrokes has cultivated 13 very nice Wordpress themes from around the web that will do the trick for Going Pink.

You can, of course, Google for pink themes, too.

Twitter

twitterpatterns.com

Twitter Patterns, a site offering free background designs for your Twitter page, has put together some backgrounds specifically for Pink for October.

As a side note, if you redesign your Twitter page for Going Pink, consider linking your bio to Pink for October for the next 30 days.

Bebo

There are a couple of themes (skins) for Bebo related to Pink for October…

Bebo members accounted at least a third of last years total number of sites that Went Pink.

Et al.?

Thanks for including my list. I will be compiling a best of pink list again for this year. Looking forward to seeing all the pinks and supporting a great cause.

The patterns and designs are awesome ! I’ve pinked my Twitter account already http://twitter.com/maniar

:o)

Oh, very cool. If I didn’t already have my stuff planned, I’d swipe one of those! :)

These are really cool ways to Go Pink! Thanks for the great info. :)

Hi there. i am just linking you up, and saw this post. I have just posted a free wordpress theme for the month too, in fall colours & pink. And when October is over, the ribbon graphic can be removed for a simple autumn (albeit a little feminine) theme. :)

thanks for the fun & promoting this cause.

I made my blog pink. I did the same last year.

I wrote up a post about some of my favourite pink wordpress themes. There are a bunch of great pink themes out there. I even have available a plug in which I used last year that places a banner in the upper corner that says `Pink for October`and it links to this website. The Plug in is no longer available on the authors website, nor can I find it on any wordpress plugin websites.

I just released a theme in honour of PinkForOctober.org. It’s a modified version of a theme I just released called PINKatic. Check it out at http://www.patdryburgh.net/blamatic/. Love to see it used!

Just to let you know, my site Essential Keystrokes, that you featured in the post has now gone pink, too.
