This is the first in a series of eight, or maybe more, contests that will be held here on Pink for October, in an attempt to get more people involved during the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And since I have explained how the contest will be played, and also introduced all our generous sponsors, we should not waste anymore time. Let’s get started!
The word for today is RIBBON.
That’s right. Go look for a picture, or take one if you can, that shows a ribbon, obvious or otherwise. Then write a description about it on your blog and leave me a comment in the comments section. Be creative! Think out of the box :D
Please note that the comments section for this post will be closed at 11:59 pm on Sunday, Oct 5th, and the next word will then be announced at 12 am on Monday, Oct 6th (all times in GMT). Also, I suggest that you subscribe to the Pink for October feed to avoid missing any updates and contests!
P/S: I am sorry this post is some 2 hours later than it should have been posted. I was confused about the different time zones (I live in Malaysia, +0800 GMT).

Over the weekend, I have managed to look for sponsors to sponsor an item for the super-fun contest which will be held here on Pink for October throughout the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I did not expect people to be so generous, and I am indeed touched by the willingness and generosity of the people I have met.

Dana P. @ PeaPod Studio is sponsoring a Go Pink for October mug. Dana has also written a special Ways to Support Breast Cancer Awareness page on her site. Dana lost her mother, grandmother and cousin to the disease — read about her story here.

Bhavesh R. @ PremiumThemes.net is sponsoring a single-use premium theme available on PremiumThemes.net. The lucky winner may choose one of the many professional, classy and pretty single-use premium themes. Please note that you are NOT allowed to distribute/sell the theme.

Rob L. @ Bloggeries is sponsoring a blog review to one of our lucky winners. Rob writes very good reviews, you may check out his blog reviews here. Rob also runs a blogging forum and a blog directory.

Jacob C. @ Just Creative Designs is offering something very different — a 30-minute design consultation session via Skype or email — to one of our winners. Please get your design-related questions ready! :D

Selene B. @ iDesign Studios is offering a banner ad design (static / non-animated ad) to one of our winners.

Sharon H. @ Mana Moon Studios is sponsoring a woven wire beaded bracelet. This specially-designed bracelet will feature a gorgeous floral focal and a selection of accompanying beads along with a pink ribbon bead that symbolizes breast cancer awareness. The bracelet will be created using an original woven wire technique and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
Sharon is also selling some Pink for October Etsy shop banners and all proceeds will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Moon @ Custom Moonlight Designs is sponsoring a pair of handmade earrings named “Hearts and Tears“, designed with the contest in mind and inspired by “one tear of fear one tear of triumph”. The hearts symbolize the spirit of the fight and the friends and family who fight along side.

Lisa C. @ Polka Dot Cottage is sponsoring a pretty pink choker she named “Tile Necklace in Crabapple Floral“. If you have time, do check out Lisa’s Etsy shop too because she has quite a few other pretty handmade earrings and necklaces :D

Emily @ Swank Web Style Design Studio is sponsoring a year of webhosting, which includes 200MB disk space, 10GB monthly bandwidth, 5 addon domains and 5 MySQL databases. This is the perfect package for new bloggers or individuals wanting a small, personal website.

Catherine @ La Perle Jewellery is sponsoring a pair of gemstone earrings for the contest. Also, check out Catherine’s Etsy shop if you can, because she has some unique earrings and necklaces! :D

Hayley T. @ Cancer Survivor Stuff will be sponsoring not one, but two Survivor Buffs®. These are the original Buffs® that is used on the TV Show “Survivor”. Buff® is the brand name of an innovative, multi-functional garment and it is useful, comfortable, fun and it protects your head from the cold, wind and sun. Plus, it can be worn as a scarf, cap, headscarf or headband with complete freedom and comfort. May be used with or without chemo.

Laurie and Nikki @ Our3Day is giving away a pretty Lean Cuisine Lunch Tote to one lucky contest winner. The pretty lunch totes come in 3 different patterns – Patchwork, Pink Zebra and Floral Swirl.
To all our sponsors, thank you very much! :D Without your generosity, there would be no contest! So if you haven’t bookmarked Pink for October, what are you waiting for? I’ll be back on Thursday, October 2nd, with our first contest. See you then! :D
If you’d noticed, we have more sponsors now than we have contests (remember I was planning on 2 contests per week, on Mondays and Thursdays, for four weeks?). But that shouldn’t be a problem. We’ll figure things out along the way. I’m sure.
P/S: We are no longer accepting sponsorships because we now have 4 extra prizes, and I need to think of more contests so that those prizes can be given away before October ends. And I’m not exactly a creative person, LOL.

I mentioned a few days ago that I would be organizing a contest here on Pink for October to get more people involved during the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Now, let me tell you more about the contest:
1. I will post 2 breast-cancer-related words every week, one on Mondays and one on Thursdays, at 12 am (GMT). Check your time here.
2. You will then take a picture that best describes the word, and write a description of that picture on your blog. Your picture and description may or may not be breast-cancer-related (it is a very flexible game and is entirely up to your creativity) but I would encourage you to write about breast cancer related stuff because it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month! :D
3. After publishing your post on your blog, you should announce it in the comments section on my post, so that other players could visit your blog. Who knows, we might all learn something new everyday!
4. You will have time to post your picture and description until the next word is posted. Once the next word is posted, the comments section for the previous word will be closed and a winner will randomly be selected.
5. The first word will be announced on Thursday, October 2nd, the final word will be announced on Monday, October 27th and all winners will be announced on Friday, October 31st.
Is everything clear? Anybody has any questions, before we begin?
P/S: I am still looking for sponsors for this contest. Would you like to be one of our sponsors? Send me an email, and I will tell you more about it :D

Christina Applegate with host, Oprah Winfrey
Christina Applegate, an Emmy Award-winning American actress, known for playing Kelly Bundy on the long-running FOX Broadcasting Company sitcom Married… with Children, will kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month on The Oprah Winfrey Show by setting the record straight about her breast cancer. She recently had a double mastectomy and is now cancer free, without having undergone chemo.
The upcoming episode will be aired on Tuesday, September 30, so please mark your calendar. Also, check out the 35-second promotional video clip.
Also on the show will be Nancy Brinker, who brought breast cancer to the forefront after founding the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and subsequently the 5K Race for the Cure. To date, the foundation has raised over $11 billion for the cause!
