Web sites will Go Pink during the month of October to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get people talking about breast cancer, and raise money for research. But to be clear, raising money isn’t the primary purpose of this web event. The hope is that you turn your site pink (in whatever way works for your site), educate yourself about the multiple issues related to Breast Cancer, then take that knowledge and tell someone else what you’ve learned.

Corporations Can Go Pink Too. Really.

I went to update the Pink for October Twitter account, congratulating Boobie-Thon for raising $9300 this year, when I saw this update:

I checked out National City and was please to see this:

Corporations Can Participate Too!

Many businesses participate in Pink for October each year, but I am happy to see more corporations Going Pink too.

Resistance

When I first started Pink for October in 2006, I approached my employer with the idea of Going Pink. No dice. I understood their point of view; pink isn’t in the corporate color scheme, if they Went Pink they’d have to do other colors when people asked…

It just wasn’t a point of view that held much water for me. If you support something, why not go all out? Maybe I am just too comfortable saying no to people about things I don’t want to do. Perhaps that’s too hard for corporations…

Breaking Resistance

I’ve tried to get other corporations to Go Pink but so far I have struck out. Last year Yahoo! participated and I think they did it this year too though I didn’t see it. I know you can apply a Pink theme to the main page, but that is a regular thing.

I’d like to see more corporations participating in this web event (obviously). But how can I go about convincing large companies to join in? Not a rhetorical question. I’d really like some help answering this.

If you have an answer, please leave a comment. And if you’ve seen other large companies Go Pink this year, please post a link.
