Web sites will Go Pink during the month of October to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get people talking about breast cancer, and raise money for research. But to be clear, raising money isn’t the primary purpose of this web event. The hope is that you turn your site pink (in whatever way works for your site), educate yourself about the multiple issues related to Breast Cancer, then take that knowledge and tell someone else what you’ve learned.

Making It Easy to Go Pink

Because this is the third year for Pink for October, we’ve had time and luck with building up a lot of support from web designers. For 2008, it’s easy to Go Pink.

I’ve said before that Pink for October should have a low bar for entry: Turn your site pink, link to us. The latter is easy, but I get a lot of questions about the former. “How much pink is enough?”

As I said previously, I just changed some of the text on my personal site pink and added an image in the sidebar linking here. But if you want to go further than I did, this post is for you.

Here you can find a short list of links to resources for Going Pink on your site.

Wordpress

Essential Keystrokes has cultivated 13 very nice Wordpress themes from around the web that will do the trick for Going Pink.

You can, of course, Google for pink themes, too.

Twitter

twitterpatterns.com

Twitter Patterns, a site offering free background designs for your Twitter page, has put together some backgrounds specifically for Pink for October.

As a side note, if you redesign your Twitter page for Going Pink, consider linking your bio to Pink for October for the next 30 days.

Bebo

There are a couple of themes (skins) for Bebo related to Pink for October…

Bebo members accounted at least a third of last years total number of sites that Went Pink.

Et al.?

Got any others? Please link them up in the comments.

One Week to October

Well, our new design is up. Is yours? :)

You don’t have to go all-out on your design like Tammie did here. On my personal site, I just changed some of the fonts (the headers) to Pink. That’s all I have time for and if you are in the same boat it’s an easy way to participate (just remember to link here and tell your visitors why things are Pink).

I am in the process of compiling a list of themes that are available to use, but in the meantime Google can be helpful in that respect.

In other news, people have already been signing up to Go Pink. And you can see who has signed up as well.

Over the coming week, we really need help getting the word out to as many people as possible. Please take a few minutes over the next 7 days to bug a few people about this. Whether you just send them a link to this site or can get us Slashdotted/Digged/Twittered/MSMed… every new person who knows about this event is potentially another new person after them.
